In the middle of a global pandemic and with a baby on the way, most wouldn’t consider it a good time open a new business. However, for Kyle Poulton, he figured it was as good a time as ever to make his dream of owning a barbershop a reality.
Now the proud owner of Brighteyes Barbershop
in #DowntownBrantford, clients can expect a stylish, modern vibe combined with a friendly atmosphere. Most prevalent, however, is the talent and classic skill of barbering Kyle has honed since he was a kid cutting his friends’ hair in their kitchens and basements.
The name Brighteyes is suggestive of the positivity Kyle aims to bring to the area. A nod to the idea of being full of optimism and enthusiasm – it’s the same energy he brings to the shop each day. “I wanted to create a space where everyone feels welcome,” said Kyle. “It’s a spot to hangout, have a good time, and leave feeling and looking better than when they came in.”
Cutting through the thickness of negativity that often surrounds the image of downtown Brantford, Kyle chose the Darling Street location so he could be part of the positive change and revitalization that has steadily occurred in the last ten years or so. It’s a part of the city that he chooses to see the beauty, history, and character of.
“I’ve had a few people tell me my business looks like it doesn’t belong downtown, like it should be in a different part of town, but that’s the kind of mentality I’m trying to get rid of with Brighteyes.”
Changing perspectives one client at a time, Kyle is proud to contribute to the sense of community he has always felt. “Brantford might be a little rough around the edges, but at the heart of it, it’s a great place to call home.”
