Connecting with Conestoga

October 31st, 2018

This month I had the opportunity to visit Conestoga College and meet with them about their growing population of students and what their plans are for the future. Meeting with Karen Towler, Manager of Operations & Program Planning along with Paul Osborne, Associate Vice President Marketing & Community Relations, it was easy to get excited about what they are offering their students and what they are offering our city!

Conestoga has seen a growth this year in it’s domestic students by 150 students and international students by 350 students. Conestoga has been expanding it’s opportunities and programing and is attracting students from near and far.

The Brantford campus provides diploma programs in Business and in Health Office Administration, a graduate certificate program in Human Resources Management, and certificate programs in Medical Office Practice as well as in General Arts and Science.

Conestoga's continuing education programs are designed with you in mind. Whether you want to update your skills for your current career or invest in new skills to launch a career change, their flexible learning options are set up to fit your lifestyle. They offer classroom, online and mixed program delivery options to fit your schedule and give you the tools to achieve success.

While meeting with Karen and Paul, they expressed that they would like to know what the city would like to see as far as programs, courses and interest are. The Conestoga Brantford team not only wants to offer opportunity to students, but to everyone in the city of Brantford. An opportunity to further your education and skills in specialty programs with flexible learning options. As we all elevate our skills and education we elevate our city, and they are passionate about the big picture and what it means to the citizens of Brantford.

Conestoga Brantford will be offering more programing, with evening and weekend training. There is a growing number of people joining their programs for academic upgrading because university wasn’t right for them, or they want to expand their education for their current job. If you’re thinking about leveling up your education you can join a free 6-week program and they will help you find your way. What a wonderful opportunity for our community!

During my visit I heard a story about two brothers who were separated between Conestoga Doon/Kitchener Campus, and the other was sent to Brantford Campus. Recently Karen had a visit from the Brantford student. He had great excitement for his new school, home and job in Downtown Brantford. He has decided this is home, and won’t be joining his brother at the other campus.

Conestoga is doing wonderful things for it’s students, for our downtown and for our entire community. All of the students have new Conestoga hoodies with Brantford printed on the back. If you see one around town let it remind you of what Conestoga’s commitment is: to connect life and learning to build career success and stronger communities.
